Hello lovelies! I want to talk to y’all about one of my favorite authors and her newest book, Renegades.

The Lunar Chronicles

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)

I first discovered Marissa Meyer in December of 2015. My wife bought me The Lunar Chronicles for Christmas. Up to that point I’d probably only read 3 books in the last decade. Mind you, I read A LOT in high school but then fell off the reading radar. Since reading this stunning series of fairy tales retold I have read almost 300 books. Marissa Meyer rekindled my love of reading in a way I never expected.

Last month, I finally got a chance to read Heartless. I had been putting it off because Alice In Wonderland is one of my all time favorites (if you couldn’t tell from the theme of my blog here). However, the way that Meyer told this story and how she incorporated baking, my former pastry chef heart fell down the proverbial rabbit hole.

Renegades (Renegades, #1)

And then I found out that I am going to meet Marissa Meyer at the Portland Book Festival in November and I decided to grab Renegades. I was super nervous about it because this story is nothing like her previous books. I tried to put my biases aside and give this story a chance not based on what I expected from her.renegadesq

And I am so flipping glad I did. Renegades is a beautiful story of villains who are heroes and heroes who are also villains. Meyer gives a stunning and descriptive dystopian world with a cast of characters that begs the question, are you a hero or a villain? And where is the line drawn between the two? There is no black and white in this story of a girl who was wronged by those sworn to protect and her personal vendetta against them.

I was so blown away by this story and the beautiful way in which Meyer has written it. I can not wait to pick up the next book in this duology and tell Meyer, in person, exactly how much of an impact her books have had on me.

Until next time,

Lena May.
